Areas of Expertise

TRANSPORT

Transport is one of the Community's foremost common policies. Since the establishment of the communities, this policy has focused on eliminating borders between Member States and so contributing to the free movement of individuals and of goods.

The transport sector generates 10% of EU wealth in terms of gross domestic product (GDP) and provides more than ten million jobs. Therefore, ensuring people's mobility as well as moving goods quickly, efficiently and cheaply is a central tenet of the EU's goal for a dynamic economy and cohesive society.

As highlighted by the EU Institutions and Member States and widely recognised and accepted, the constant growth in mobility puts severe strain on transport systems. This results in congestion, particularly for road and air traffic which reduces economic efficiency, and adds to fuel consumption and pollution. In fact the transport sector, principally road transport, is responsible for more than 28% of EU emissions of CO2, the main greenhouse gas.

It is patently clear that EU measures and initiatives in the transport field have both direct and indirect impact on the lives of EU citizens and businesses. FM consultants have the expertise and knowledge to tackle all the issues stemming from decisions taken at EU level that affect business and civil society alike. Filippo Marino has worked in the Transport and automotive sector for more than 6 years.

-
AUTOMOTIVE

Like in the transport policy field, all the EU initiatives in the field of automotive impact on manufacturers, distributors and consumers alike. Here at FM consultants we have extensive expertise in the automotive sector. Filippo Marino has previously managed two associations active in the automotive sectors and has been dealing with issues like type approval, emission limits, noise, motor vehicle block exemption regulation and the alike both at EU and UN ECE level for almost 6 years.

-
ENERGY

Energy is what makes Europe move and develop. It is central to our lives. We rely on it for transport, for heating and cooling our homes, and running our factories, farms and offices. However, fossil fuel is not an endless resource and is a major contributory factor in global warming. There is an urgent need to create an integrated energy and environment policy based on clear targets and timetables to move towards a low-carbon economy and energy efficiency. The EU is putting in place an ambitious energy policy - covering the full range of energy sources from fossil fuels (oil, gas and coal) to nuclear energy and renewables (solar, wind, biomass, geothermal, hydro-electric and tidal) – trying to trigger a new industrial revolution that will hopefully deliver a low-energy economy, whilst making the energy we consume more secure, competitive and sustainable.

In December 2008 EU leaders adopted a comprehensive package of measures to reduce the EU's contribution to global warming and ensure reliable and sufficient supplies of energy. By 2020, Europe wants to reduce CO2 emissions by 20%, increase energy efficiency by 20% and produce 20% of its energy from renewable sources.

Making European economy a low carbon economy is at the top of the EU and Member States agenda as we expect a new energy efficiency action plan in 2010. This will have a tremendous impact on business and on our daily lives.

At FM consultants we have the expertise and the experience to support your efforts to make your voice heard within the EU arena.

-
ENVIRONMENT

The environment is vital to us and our needs. We must protect our environment and to use it carefully; our health and our very survival are at stake. Since the early 1970s Europe has been firmly committed to the environment: protection of air and water quality, conservation of resources and protection of biodiversity, waste management and control of activities which have an adverse environmental impact are just some of the areas in which the EU is active, at both Member State level and internationally.

Protecting the environment has a cost that must be borne by the entire society: consumers and businesses alike. Our expertise ranges from climate change, to waste management, packaging, noise and air pollution especially in the field of transport.

-
INTERNAL MARKET

The internal market is the "rasoin d'etre" of the European Union and it is made up of the four freedoms of movement: of goods, services, capital and persons.

Since it was created in 1993, the single market has stimulated more and more competition, which resulted in better and more affordable prices for consumers, created new jobs and enabled businesses and citizens to benefit from a wide choice of goods and services.

The European Union is constantly working towards further simplification of the regulations which still prevent citizens and businesses from making the most of the advantages of the single market. At FM consultants our expertise includes everything revolving around free movement of goods, harmonization measures (New approach), company law, intellectual property, and consumer related issues.
